Hedgewitch's post (Earth and Tree: Evergreen) prompted me to write about our Advent wreath.
Every year I make a wreath to hang from our door.
Going out in the middle of winter to find greenery and berries is just a great reminder that life does not stop - not even in the darkest, coldest time of year.
It reminds me that life and light and warmth will return!
I guess that's a good Christmas message too:
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
(John 1:5)
I am not sure what all the plants in this year's wreath are called, but I know that there is ivy (leaves and berries), holly, Clematis vitalba (also called Old Man's Beard), cypress and hawthorn.

ReplyDeleteI think in this still dark part of the year a lot of people are quietly struggling, coming to terms with things, soul-searching, taking stock before launching into the new year and life again after the winter break.. anything that helps us hang on to the fact that there is always 'light at the end of the tunnel', that hope is always there just waiting for us to find it, is well-worth a little effort!
